This summer, a prominent legacy public art commission was relocated to Britannia Park, adjacent to the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre (102 Greenview Avenue).
Kinetic Clock is a conceptual sculpture that represents a hybrid clock and sundial that explores mechanical and natural concepts of time. Artist Andrew Stonyer (b. 1944) is known for large-scale sculptures influenced by mathematics, geometry, and the application of scientific principles to artistic form.
Commissioned by the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton in 1989, the sculpture was originally located on Sparks Street between Metcalfe and O’Connor. Relocating the sculpture to a well-attended and active park offers a valuable opportunity for residents and visitors to engage with and appreciate this significant public art commission.
