Funded through the percent for art public art policy, the Public Art Program has initiated the City of Ottawa’s first Artist in Residence in Government pilot program.

Beginning in 2024 the Public Art Program, in partnership with Arts Ottawa and artist team Third Way Creative, has managed the Artist in Residence in Government Pilot Program.

These 12-month residencies aim to provide opportunities for artists in the community to work within municipal offices to incorporate creative approaches to City processes. During their time in residence, artists consult with department personnel, discovering the operational processes and strategic goals of the City. Artists work within their host office to identify opportunities to address challenges in City systems and apply artistic methods to influence positive change.

The Residencies of the pilot program are:

  • Integrated Neighbourhood Services – Olivia Onuk
  • Solid Waste Services – Jordan Danger
  • Arts and Heritage Development – Call for artist coming in 2025
